Ron Cobb’s mind of very fine designs

Rob Cobb is famous for creating some of the most iconic conceptual designs from the world of film, such as the DeLorean from Back to the Future, plus designs for Star WarsIndiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Abyss, AliensTotal Recall and Donnie Darko.

He started off as a political cartoonist for the Los Angeles Free Press before designing the spaceship for John Carpenter’s student movie Dark Star, which he sketched out on a napkin. This was the first movie he worked on, which kickstarted his career in Hollywood.

He went to work with some of the biggest directors in the world, including Georg Lucas (he designed some of the aliens from the canteena scene), Steven Spielberg and Richard Kelly.

Watch a documentary below about Ron Cobb’s career, which was produced by Jomar Reyes for the Creative Masters Forum.
